Date 23 Apr, 2023
World Book and Copyright Day is celebrated annually on 23 April. It’s a day to celebrate the enjoyment of books and reading.
This symbolic date was chosen because it’s the date on which several important authors – William Shakespeare, Miguel de Cervantes and Inca Garcilaso de la Vega – all died.
This year, the city of Accra, in Ghana, has been chosen as UNESCO’s World Book Capital. Accra’s year-long program kicks off on 23 April 2023. It will seek to use the power of books and storytelling to engage young people, and upskill the next generation.
