The rights of creators are under threat. The Productivity Commission’s recent recommendation to introduce a US style ‘fair use’ copyright exception, among other proposed changes, could undermine one of the foundations of creativity and innovation in Australia.

Learn about first principles of copyright in Australia and how they empower creators and publishers.
Presenter:
Virginia Morrison is a senior lawyer with the Copyright Agency, joining us from Viscopy, where she was Head of Legal & International. Virginia has many years of experience in the field of copyright law, having worked as a senior lawyer with the Australian Copyright Council and an independent copyright consultant.
12.45 – 1.30pm: Fair Use, Fair For Who?
This panel discussion will focus on the Productivity Commission’s recent recommendation to introduce a US style ‘fair use’ copyright exception. Our panelists John Birmingham, Jill Eddington and Adam Suckling will debate the uncertainty of creating and publishing without the current protections.
