Copyright Agency Insights Series
The rights of creators to earn a living from their work are under major threat as big tech companies push for more and more free content. The recent recommendation of the Productivity Commission to introduce a US style ‘fair use’ copyright exception, among other changes proposed, will undermine the foundation of creativity and innovation in Australia.
We welcome you to attend our information session and panel discussion on the importance of copyright in cultivating Australian stories.
Event Schedule:
1.30 – 2pm: Registration and light afternoon tea
2.00 – 2.30pm: Session 1
Learn about first principles of copyright in Australia and how they empower creators and publishers.
Presented by:
Virginia Morrison is a senior lawyer with the Copyright Agency, joining us from Viscopy, where she was Head of Legal & International. Virginia has many years of experience in the field of copyright law having also worked as a senior lawyer with the Australian Copyright Council and an independent copyright consultant.
2.45 – 3.30pm: Fair Use, Fair for Who?
This panel discussion will focus on the recent recommendation of the Productivity Commission to introduce a US style ‘fair use’ copyright exception. Our panel will debate the uncertainty of creating and publishing without the current protections.
