Sophie Cunningham is a non-fiction writer and novelist with a passion for trees, walking and broader environmental issues.
Sophie is the author of nine books, the most recent of which are This Devastating Fever (Ultimo Press), Flipper and Finnegan – The True Story of How Tiny Jumpers Saved Little Penguins (Albert Street Books) and City of Trees (Text Publishing).
Sophie began her career as an editor and then publisher for McPhee Gribble, Penguin and then Allen & Unwin. She was a co-founder of The Stella Prize, former editor of Meanjin (2008 – 2011) and former chair of the Literature Board of the Australia Council for the Arts (2011 – 2014). She has written for a range of magazines, including Griffith Review and The Monthly.
A Member of the Order of Australia for her contributions to literature, Sophie currently sits on the Board of University of Queensland Press and is the Chair of the Australian Society of Authors.
