Gaby is a writer and publishing industry professional. She holds a BA in Communications and a Doctorate of Creative Arts, both from the University of Technology, Sydney. Her first book, THE UNDERWHARF was published by Penguin Australia in 1995, followed by BATHING IN LIGHT (Allen & Unwin, 1999), THE TRUTH ABOUT MY FATHERS (Vintage/Random House Australia 2002) and WRESTLING THE DRAGON (2005).

With BA in hand, Gaby left for London in 1989 to find a publishing job. There she worked as a publicist for Chatto & Windus, Hodder & Stoughton and Serpent’s Tail. In 1993 she moved to New York for Serpent’s Tail’s American launch before returning to Australia. Her next publishing job was as a literary agent at Jill Hickson’s eponymous agency where she remained until it was sold to Curtis Brown in 1999.

After a stint in Moscow, where Gaby wrote for Russia Profile Magazine (which was‘compulsorily acquired’ by the Russian Government), she returned to Australia in 2008 and founded her own literary agency, The Naher Agency. In 2019 she joined forces with Grace Heifetz (ex Curtis Brown) to form Left Bank Literary. Her clients include Candice Fox, Heather Rose, Kim Scott, Holden Sheppard, John Lyons and Norman Swan.

Gaby has held a number of NGO roles including President of The Australia Tibet Council, President of Sydney PEN and President of The Australian Literary Agents’ Association. She served on VIPs Committee for the (then) Australia Council for three years, in which capacity she helped host groups of visiting international publishers and agents. She is a Patrol Captain at Bronte Surf Lifesaving Club and was recently made a Life Member, only the third woman to be nominated for this honour in the Club’s 120 year history.
