Join award-winning biographer and founding Chair of the Queensland Writers Centre Craig Munro on the 2021 Fryer Lecture in Australian Literature.

About the event:

In 1968 the University of Queensland Press published its first books of poetry—
Roger McDonald’s Citizens of Mist and the anthology New Impulses in Australian
Poetry. Within two years—at the suggestion of UQ alumnus David Malouf—the
Press began its landmark Paperback Poets series. A fiction list, and an Asian and
Pacific Writing series, soon followed. This lecture will explore the cultural context,
campus dynamics and visionary individuals behind an unlikely literary revolution
that began half a century ago at St Lucia.

About the speaker:

Craig Munro is an award-winning biographer and the author of Wild Man of
Letters, Under Cover, and Literary Lion Tamers. He edited UQP: The Writer’s
Press and co-edited Paper Empires: a history of the book in Australia 1946–2005.
Craig was UQP fiction editor from 1973 to 1980, and publishing manager from
1983 to 2000.
