Challenge & Change: AATE/ALEA National Conference
June 25, 2021
Reading Australia is looking forward to this year’s joint Australian Association for the Teaching of English (AATE) and Australian Literacy Educators’ Association (ALEA) conference, which will once again be presented online.
The AATE/ALEA National Conference, supported by the Copyright Agency’s Cultural Fund, will run from 7–9 July and cater to English and literacy teachers from early years through to tertiary. This year’s theme of Challenge and Change calls attendees to think creatively about building a better world for diverse and digitally-connected learners.
Traditionally, Reading Australia would attend in person to meet educators and talk about the almost 230 curriculum-linked resources that are freely-available for the teaching of Australian texts. In lieu of this, we are hosting an online panel discussion about professional development and the Reading Australia Fellowship at 12.30pm on Wednesday 7 July.
The discussion will be led by Nicola Evans (Head of the Cultural Fund & Reading Australia) and feature 2020 Reading Australia Fellow Karen Yager, plus ALEA representative and Reading Australia consultant Wendy Bean.
The session will also double as the official announcement of the Reading Australia Fellow for 2021! They will join the panel on the day to introduce themselves and give a brief overview of their upcoming research project.
Our panel will be live, but recordings of other sessions will be available after the event, so interested teachers should register for access (AATE/ALEA member discounts apply). Delegates who are not yet subscribed to Reading Australia can also check out our special sign-up offer, which will run for the duration of the conference.
