Australian Writers Week in China kicks off for 2018

Prize-winning Australian authors, Charlotte Wood, Alexis Wright, Fiona Wright and Richard Flanagan, are currently in China for the 11th Australian Writers Week, which is supported by the Copyright Agency’s Cultural Fund.
The event, from 15-24 March, forms part of the new Australian Writers Series – the Australian Embassy’s initiative to bring more Australian literary voices to China throughout the year.
Chief Executive of the Copyright Agency, Adam Suckling, said “The Copyright Agency’s Cultural Fund is very pleased to support Australian Writers Week in China to promote Australian writers to new readers and to encourage the translation and publication of their work. China is an important market for Australian literature and over the years we have continued to build on our relationship with bookshops, libraries, schools and universities there through Australian Writers Week.”
Australia’s Ambassador to China Jan Adams said the initiative raised the profile of Australian authors in the Chinese market and helped build a stronger relationship with Chinese publishers and readers.
“By providing opportunities for Australian voices and stories to be shared with Chinese audiences, the Australian Writers Series helps raise awareness of contemporary Australia and leads to greater mutual understanding between our two countries,” she said.
The authors will join high-profile Chinese writers including Yu Hua, Zhang Yueran, Liang Hong, Sheng Keyi and Xiao Bai in conversations at the Bookworm and Shanghai International Literary Festivals, bookshops, libraries and universities across eight cities in China: Beijing, Chengdu, Foshan, Guangzhou, Hohhot, Shanghai, Suzhou and Ulanqab.
