We are deeply saddened to hear of the passing of John Marsden, a Copyright Agency member and beloved author of more than 40 books for young people. Marsden inspired generations of readers and learners through his writing and educational legacy.

Marsden was known internationally for his best-selling Tomorrow book series, which sold millions of copies, and was adapted for film and television. He was awarded numerous literary awards for children’s and adult fiction, including the Lloyd O’Neil Award for contributions to Australian publishing, and the Christina Stead Award for best novel for his historical novel South of Darkness.

His novels have left an indelible mark on Australian literature, with Tomorrow, When the War Began holding its place as the #2 most popular secondary resource on Reading Australia, and The Rabbits as the #4 most popular. These works continue to resonate with students and teachers across the country.

John Marsden’s contribution to Australian YA literature and education cannot be overstated. His stories will live on in the hearts of his millions of readers.
