Updates to our Board
November 21, 2024
New directors join the Board, plus re-appointments.
In July, Copyright Agency sought nominations from members for three elected Board Director positions. Results of the elections were announced at Copyright Agency’s Annual General Meeting, held on Wednesday 20 November 2024.
Anthony Klan with 29.24% of the votes was elected as Author Director. Anthony is an investigative journalist with more than 20 years’ experience. He is the publisher of investigative news site The Klaxon, and has previously worked for The Australian, The Wall Street Journal and Financial Times.
Greg Browne with 32.77% of the votes was elected as Publisher Director. Greg has worked in education publishing for over 30 years. He was Managing Director of Thomson Learning (now Cengage) in Australia for 7 years and CEO of Thomson Learning’s International Division based in London from 2003 to 2008. He is now a director and largest shareholder of a local school publishing business, Matilda Education.
Dr Oliver Watts with 42% of the votes was elected as Artist Director. Oliver is a Sydney-based artist, curator and academic. He has served on the Board since 2017, after being appointed as the inaugural Artist Director after our merger with Viscopy and was reappointed in 2021. Oliver is Head Curator of Artbank, previously Senior Lecturer at the National Institute of Dramatic Art (NIDA) and Lecturer at Sydney College of the Arts (University of Sydney).
Chair, Dr Kate Harrison, congratulated the three elected directors, and thanked the 10 other nominees for their participation in the election.
In addition to the elected directors, the Board re-appointed Independent director Leslie Loble for another 3 year term. Leslie, who joined the Board in 2021, is recognised as a national leader in the education sector. She is an Industry Professor at UTS, a Paul Ramsay Fellow, and a former Deputy Secretary of the Department of Education in NSW.
At the AGM, Publisher Director Jane Curry stepped down from the Board, as her term limit for the Director position had expired. Three back-to-back terms demonstrate the level of trust Copyright Agency Publisher members have had in Jane, and she has served them expertly. Jane is the Founder and CEO of Ventura Press and Jane Curry Advisory, and now produces a podcast “The Publisher and the Writer”. She is also involved in the independent arts and culture think tank, A New Approach. We wish Jane all the very best in her future endeavours.
Matthew Ricketson also departed the Board at the meeting. Matthew was appointed to the Board in 2022, filling the casual vacancy for the Author Director. Matthew is a journalist, author and academic. We thank Matthew for the extensive experience from the important fields of both journalism and higher education that he brought to the Board.
