Copyright Agency members shine in 69th Walkley Awards

The 69th Walkley Awards for Excellence in Journalism were announced in Sydney on 19 November.
Congratulations to all our Copyright Agency members who received these well-deserved awards:
Nick McKenzie, David Marin-Guzman, and Ben Schneiders were part of The Building Bad Team who took home the 2024 Gold Walkley, Australian journalism’s highest honour, for their ‘Building Bad’ investigation. The Walkley Judging Board unanimously voted it as story of the year, commending it as “an incredible, courageous feat of investigative journalism with huge ramifications. A story Australian journalists have been trying to tell for decades. Nick McKenzie and his team finally nailed it, in a massive cross-platform, inter-newsroom collaboration”. The Breaking Bad team also won the Current Affairs Long award.
Nick McKenzie was also part of the team who won Scoop of the Year for ‘The Pezzullo Files’ published in The Age and The Sydney Morning Herald; and Current Affairs Short award for ‘The Power Player’ on 60 Minutes.
Nick Moir received the Nikon-Walkley Press Photographer of the Year award for his portfolio of work published in The Sydney Morning Herald.
Pioneering Australian business journalist Robert Gottliebsen was honoured for his Outstanding Contribution to Journalism.
Cathy Wilcox was awarded Cartoon of the Year for ‘Break glass’ in The Sydney Morning Herald.
David Leser was acknowledged with the award for Commentary, Analysis, Opinion and Critique for ‘The War in Gaza: Not in my Jewish name’ published in The Sydney Morning Herald and The Age.
Kylie Stevenson was part of the team awarded for Coverage of Indigenous Affairs for ‘NT Schools in Crisis’ in The Australian.
Matthew Kelly won the Coverage of Community & Regional Affairs award for ‘Three decades on the streets’ in Newcastle Herald.
Michael Warner received the Sports Journalism award for ‘White Line Fever: AFL illicit drugs crisis’ published in the Herald Sun.
Linda Morris received the Specialist and Beat Reporting award for co-authoring ‘The portrait Gina Rinehart doesn’t want you to see’ published in The Sydney Morning Herald, The Age and Brisbane Times.
Linton Besser was part of the team who took home the Business Journalism award for ‘Netstrata’ on ABC, 7.30 and ABC Investigations.
