August 1, 2024
We congratulate author and Copyright Agency member, Charlotte Wood, whose latest novel, Stone Yard Devotional, is longlisted for the world’s most influential prize for a work of fiction, The Booker Prize. She’s the first Australian in eight years to achieve a place on the longlist.
The Booker longlist of 13 books, known as the ‘Booker Dozen’, are selected from 156 books published in the UK and/or Ireland between 1 October 2023 and 30 September 2024.
Of this year’s longlist, Chair of the Booker Prize 2024, Edmund de Waal, says: “This is timely and timeless fiction, in which there is much at stake. Here are books that unfold with quietness and stealth, as well as books that are incendiary.’
The author of seven novels and three works of non-fiction, Charlotte is no stranger to prestigious literary award lists. Stone Yard Devotional was also longlisted in this year’s Miles Franklin Literary Prize. The Natural Way of Things won the Stella Prize, the Indie Book of the Year and Novel of the Year, was joint winner of the Prime Minister’s Literary Award for Fiction, and shortlisted for the Miles Franklin Literary Award. The Weekend was shortlisted for the Miles Franklin Literary Award, the Stella Prize, the Prime Minister’s Literary Award and the Australian Literature Society Gold Medal. Animal People was longlisted and The Submerged Cathedral was shortlisted for the Miles Franklin Literary Award.
The Booker shortlist will be announced on 16 September. We wish Charlotte the best of luck.
