Copyright Agency Announces New Appointments

November 29, 2021

Copyright Agency Chair, Dr Kate Harrison welcomes Leslie Loble to the Board. The appointment was announced at the Annual General Meeting on Wednesday 24 November 2021 and is in addition to the reappointment of Jane Curry, Dr Oliver Watts and Adele Ferguson.

Recognised as a national leader in the education sector, Leslie is focused on the use of technology to lift outcomes for Australian students. She joins the Board as an Independent Director, alongside fellow Independent Directors, Jason Eades and Richard Eccles.

“I’m delighted to welcome Leslie to the Copyright Agency, her extensive experience in all facets of the Australian education sector; early childhood education, schools and universities will be invaluable to us in the challenges ahead.” Dr Harrison said.

As Industry Professor at UTS, and holding a fellowship supported by the Paul Ramsay Foundation, Leslie is involved in innovation that will help drive improvements in education especially for disadvantaged students. A former Deputy Secretary of the Department of Education in NSW, Leslie spent 20 years leading forward-thinking organisational and policy shifts across the education sector. She was named one of Australia’s 100 Women of Influence in 2013 and one of the top 50 school education innovators in 2019.

In addition, award winning journalist, Adele Ferguson has been re-elected following a ballot to the position of Author Director alongside Jane Curry, Publisher Director, and Dr Oliver Watts, Visual Artist Director, both re-elected unopposed.

“Congratulations to Adele, Jane, and Oliver on their re-election. It’s been a rewarding year for Copyright Agency. Importantly we were able to deliver more than $100 million in payments to our members, complete the upgrade of member portal – improving the member experience, and we continued our support for authors and artists affected by the COVID19 pandemic.” Dr Harrison said.

This will be the final AGM for outgoing CEO, Adam Suckling. Earlier this year, Adam announced that he would not renew his contract for a further three-year term.

“We want to thank Adam for his dedication in leading the Agency in the last six years, and his commitment to our members. His advocacy for fair and equitable copyright policy settings and the implementation of upgraded systems will continue to support Copyright Agency members for years to come. We wish Adam well in his next endeavours.” Dr Harrison said.
