Close to $114m paid to members in FY 2019/20
July 8, 2020
The 2019/20 Financial Year drew to a close with almost $114 million distributed to publishers, writers, visual artists and surveyor members.
“Our licences cover the use of a vast amount of copyright material by Australian school and university students, governments and businesses,” says Copyright Agency CEO Adam Suckling. “Our payment to members is for use of their material as an essential input into helping educate students, and running government and businesses.”
Given the ongoing impact of the COVID-19 pandemic – which has ravaged the economy and thwarted much of the income that would normally flow to the creative industries – payments for the use of copyright material are more vital than ever.
As Mr Suckling says, “Our payments not only allow members to keep creating material – and reward their work – but also represent respect for what they do.”
We would like to thank our Member Services team for their tireless work answering around nearly 14,000 queries for year, around 1,400 of these via our live chat.
We are pleased to see members embracing this feature and engaging with the new Member Portal to manage information, view and add their works and understand payments.
Thank you for your cooperation and support during what has been a very tough year for Australian creators.
We know that you are resilient, and are proud to continue serving you as best we can. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to get in touch.
