Copyright Agency to manage Sidney Nolan’s copyright in ANZ
June 10, 2020
As the Australian partner of the Design and Artists Copyright Society (DACS), Copyright Agency has the immense privilege of managing the copyright for celebrated artist Sidney Nolan in Australia and New Zealand.
DACS, a not-for-profit visual artists’ rights management organisation and our sister society in the UK, announced its representation of the Sidney Nolan Trust in March 2020. The Trust administers care and access to a collection of Nolan’s works and archives in Presteigne, Wales (the place Nolan called home during his last decade of life). Inspired by the artist’s talent, innovation and passion for cultural exchange, it serves as an important centre for learning and engagement with the arts, both in the UK and abroad.
Copyright royalties from licensing requests will help sustain the Trust’s excellent creative learning programmes, including their multi-disciplinary residency and master class for established and emerging artists, plus opportunities for the young and disadvantaged to engage with the arts and the natural environment.
Melbournian-born Nolan (22 April 1917 – 28 November 1992) was one of the most significant and influential modern artists of his generation. We are thrilled that, by managing his copyright in our region, we are contributing to his ongoing legacy and vision; assisting the Trust to nurture public engagement and artistic potential; and supporting DACS in championing artists’ contribution to our communities.
