Review of Code of Conduct finalised
April 4, 2019
The Australian Government’s Bureau of Communications and Arts Research released the final report of the review of the Code of Conduct for Copyright Collecting Societies on 1 April 2019.
The recommendations outlined in the report seek to:
- increase clarity around the role of the Code
- improve transparency around collecting societies’ operations
- strengthen governance arrangements for collecting societies and the Code
Copyright Agency will work with the other collecting societies, such as Screenrights and APRA AMCOS, to implement the recommendations.
The review examined the extent to which the Code remains the best mechanism to promote efficient, effective and transparent administration of copyright licences, and supports overall confidence in Australia’s collective copyright management system. Copyright Agency has been a signatory to the Code since it was established in 2002, and reports each year on its compliance with the obligations in the Code.
