CAL has several levels of membership, as indicated in the boxes of this section. The option displayed is for all Works in which you control or represent the relevant rights, for all CAL Licence Schemes, for both digital use and photocopying. Please do not change the displayed second and third ticked boxes if you wish to participate at this level.
The lowest level is for participation in the compulsory Statutory Licence Schemes only. This box remains ticked and cannot be changed. Those schemes apply to all copyright works, and your membership of CAL will allow CAL to pay you for any use of your Works identified in the course of any monitoring system established under those schemes.
If you leave the second or third boxes ticked, this will allow your Works to be included in CAL's Commercial Reproduction Licence Schemes and/or CAL's New Media Licence Schemes, as well as the compulsory Statutory Licence Schemes. You must control the right to scan and electronically communicate a Work to include it in CAL's New Media Licence Schemes.
Under the Copyright Act 1968, educational institutions, Commonwealth, State and Territory governments are authorised to use copyright material provided they comply with certain obligations, including agreeing to pay copyright owners equitable remuneration for that use. As the declared collecting society for the Statutory Licence Schemes, payments of equitable remuneration are made to CAL and subsequently distributed to member rightsholders whose works have been identified as copied or otherwise used during a CAL survey.
In becoming a member of CAL, you enable CAL to pay you equitable remuneration from educational institutions, Commonwealth, State & Territory governments that reproduce and communicate your Works.
The term Reproduce is used throughout the Copyright Act 1968, and is taken to include photocopying, printing to paper, copying by hand and the making of overhead transparencies. CAL's Commercial Reproduction Licence Schemes currently include the corporate, document delivery, local government, press clipping, not-for-profit associations, religious organisations and funeral directors licence schemes.
In order to participate in CAL's New Media Licence Schemes, members must control the right to Communicate and the right to scan or otherwise Reproduce a Work in an electronic form. CAL's New Media Licence Schemes currently include the corporate intranet, digital press clipping, and various on-line schemes offered by aggregators on a subscription or pay per view basis.
CAL is committed to protecting your privacy. CAL collects your personal information provided in this application and in the course of your membership with CAL for a number of reasons including making payments to you for the reproduction and communication of Works, and so that CAL can represent you as a non-exclusive agent in matters relevant to the Nominated Licence Schemes. CAL may use your personal information to contact you if needed.
Other than as set out in CAL's privacy policy, CAL will not disclose your personal information to any other party without your consent, unless authorised by National Privacy Principle 2 of the Privacy Act 1988, for instance if required by law.
If you are unable to provide the personal information requested in this form, please contact privacy@copyright.com.au, as we may be unable to process your application.
